Globalized Buenos Aires. Oh… No…

April 6, 2013

This is an audio postcard; I tell the story of delay, waiting and walking around, while reflecting on Buenos Aires as I prepare my departure.  Here’s how it starts:

Porteños at the McCafe

Instead of waiting fifteen minutes for my pedicure inside the salon, I walked out to get coffee. The closest coffee is at McDonald’s…

Here I am, in globalization territory… I go to the McCafé, which is different from the standard McDonalds. McCafé was built to look like a Buenos Aires café.

The place attempts to be refined… Leather chairs…Modern decor…. You would not believe this is a McDonald if you look at the pastries on display… McDonalds corporation obviously knows how to adjust itself to the esthetics of the neighbourhood  to be conquered. If they want to. This one surely has done it. But most of them don’t.
