Mostly Piazzolla jazz concert. Metropolitan Teatro. Buenos Aires.

December 5, 2008

Tonight Mario Parmisiano appears in concert presenting Piazzolla’s music and improvisational jazz. Piano, electric bass, bandoneón and drums are joined by eight strings from the opera house.

Jazz fans clapped and talked with Mario loudly from their seats. I could not recognize Mario’s arrangement of “Soledad.” It was not the gripping, romantic original song played by Astor himself.

Laura Escalada, former actress and Astor Piazzolla’s second wife, is tonight’s special guest. She mentions how much Astor loved jazz as she receives a plaque of honor.  Tongue in cheek she asks Mario to quit disarranging her husband’s music.
