I enthusiastically recommend “In Strangers Arms.” It is a deeply felt meditation on the soul of a city, of a people and of course of tango, its lyrics and music. Dujovne sees and compares the facade and underlying structures, concepts and complex emotions that characterize tango. If you have not been to Buenos Aires, you will feel compelled to go.
In reading her book, I experienced a close embrace with the composers, dancers and poets Dujovne interviewed. How fortunate we are, those of us whom tango has chosen: and how fortunate we are that Beatriz Dujovne has invited us to read this love letter to the city where she was born.
