November 8, 2013

November 8, 2013. 10:30 AM. Open to students, faculty and community.

Event: Workshop: Immersion in the sub-culture of tango.

Where: University Indiana.-Bloomington, Mathers Museum

Beatriz Dujovne (Tango dancer, psychologist, and author) and Alfredo Minetti (scholar, musician, and co-director of This is Tango Now) will present a demonstration. Along with Anya Royce, professor of anthropology at IU, they’ll explore the idea of strangers coming together, the concept of the embrace, and the cultural perception and performance of time. Audience involvement will aim at people’s understanding of some of the main characteristics of tango, using their own bodies as the platform for reaching understanding. The performance is part of E460/660 Creativity and Collaboration, an anthropology course taught by Royce, that examines the process of innovation across performing, visual, and literary arts, highlighting the relationship between individual expression and collaboration.
