Today I attended the opening ceremony of the CONGRESO LATINOAMERICANO DE FOLKLORE at the National University of the Arts (UNA). This university offers a TANGO CAREER, which includes much more than dance technique. Since Tango, as porteños well know, involves more than dancing, students learn history, music, dance, lyrics, sociology, research and more. The university has its own Orquesta Típica.

The authorities of the University welcome the students and registrants. Many travelled from the provinces to either attend or lecture.

The university BALLET FOLKLORICO gave an outstanding performance to close the ceremony. I was interested in the dance CHAMAME from the interior of the country because it has an EMBRACE. Must go on a research expedition to figure out if both dances developed simultaneously or not. I will report when I  get a well documented answer.
