In Strangers' Arms

Tango music. I will be in Buenos Aires researching the landscape of contemporary tango orchestras creating new music and no longer playing songs from the “Golden Era” of tango.

Continuing with my anthropological interests, I will study the changes in milongas culture and demographics during the past ten years. I will interview tango taxi-dancers who appeared on the milonga scene in the last decade will be interviewed. I will also interview dancers engaged in tango dancing during the golden era until the present time, to asses their view of the ever changing face of milongas.

I will assemble a power point presentation of my own photographs and notes to present, in visual form, the salient aspects of the intricate relationship of the dance to the salient traits of its mother’s culture.
