The Palais de Glace did it again! In a previous postcard I shared an exhilarating fiber exhibit at this museum.
Today I am sharing the visit to another exhibit: “Miradas núbicas” by Mireya Baglietto. The artist incorporates air inside her fiber compositions. Pumps deliver air at a steady pace; the shapes of over sized fiber forms keeps them in constant motion. They seem to breathe and look like “animated” objects around in the floors, corners and ceiling of the hall.
“Living’ fabric structures take you by surprise. You stop in your tracks. You are taken aback. You watch them “inhale and exhale,” rising and coming down, expanding and contracting.
The whole effect in itself would be sufficiently satisfying. But the surprises are just beginning: As you enter the exhibit, you are handed a mirror (ipad size) and instructed to place it right under your nose. Walk around to see the world from an upside down perspective!
It is hard to imagine such a novel experience. Imagine! The textile forms that drape the ceiling appear to be under your feet. Your mind thinks you arestepping on them!
