In Strangers' Arms

I wanted to send you a bit of feedback before too long … to wit, I LOVE your book!  I purchased it last week at the TESO Festival at Dance Boulevard in San Jose CA, and was lucky enough to hear your presentation (& see you dance at the milonga).  After reading the Acknowledgments, Foreword and Introduction, I jumped right to the Epilogue and was brought again to tears (your book touched me from the beginning … but more about this at a later time …).

So, kudos & congratulations!  This is the book I have been waiting for – a combination of scholarship and personal anecdote that brings tango as alive on the page as it is in experience (hearing it; dancing it).  Your work is neither dry (as historical tomes sometimes are), nor self-serving (as certain ego-driven autobiographical stories are).  Your research balances the story of tango’s roots and development, yet explains why the myths persist.  Best of all, In Strangers’ Arms is eminently readable, because it is beautifully written in elegant and evocative language.  Like tango, and music in the minor key, it pulls at the heartstrings.
