Tango’s unintended legacy to the world: foreign “tangueros” develop an affinity to their tango communities. For many, these communities become their social life. These alternative communities with their own cultures provide opportunities for self-expression, freedom and creativity that people do not find in their cultures at large. In time tango becomes an identity.
